Submitting medical claims for OSA appliances for your dental practice

Medical Insurance Claims for Oral Sleep Appliances

Course Description

Sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can pose serious health risks if left untreated. That’s one reason why patients may come to your dental office seeking an oral appliance for treatment. Dentists are uniquely qualified to provide and fit oral appliances for sleep-related conditions.

Why would patients prefer an OSA appliance over other options?

  • A well-fitted appliance is often easier to tolerate than CPAP therapy
  • An appliance is convenient and easy to travel with
  • An oral device is a non-invasive treatment

Most payers require a diagnosis of OSA from the patient’s physician, accompanied by a qualifying sleep study to consider coverage. Dental providers must be familiar with all state laws pertaining to the practice of sleep medicine.

This course covers general and Medicare-specific rules for claims submission, including example claims. You will learn how to submit claims for oral appliances to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) for successful reimbursement.
