Can a powerful dental billing company start on Craigslist? We’ve got the receipts to prove it.

Knowing a company’s humble beginnings can help you trust the people you plan to partner with. Trust is essential when choosing a dental billing company for the all-important job of managing your revenue cycle. There are so many dental billing companies out there that outsource every aspect of their business, that their origin story isn’t easy to understand.

Dental Claim Support (DCS) is a full-service dental billing provider that delivers cash flow you can count on. And surprise! We’re the dental billing company that got our first computers on Craigslist.

From starting in a small 400-square-foot room with second-hand hardware to becoming a leader in the dental billing industry - we’ve learned a lot about how to best serve dental teams.

The goal has always been to empower dental teams to put patients first. And with their dental billing process in expert hands, they can do just that.

We’re sharing the story of DCS and our purpose in the dental industry to give you a better idea of who we are and why we do what we do.

As dental professionals who care about your patients, we hope you feel heard and understood when you see what inspired our founders.

Humble beginnings of a dental billing company

Our three founders, Davy Clay, Ryan DeLettre, and Josh Smith, got their start serving individual and group practices in the dental industry.

“We all noticed the same thing: Across the board, dentists who gave excellent care were losing millions of dollars to insurance companies.”

Davy, Ryan, and Josh wanted every dentist to win their insurance battles. So in 2012, they formed the dental billing company DCS.

“We realized that each dental office had a different way of doing dental billing. So, when we centralized it and put it into a process, the numbers just exponentially grew, and, so did the bottom line.”

They started small, serving local practices near DCS headquarters in Savannah, Georgia.

In the beginning, their headquarters was a small room. They set up camp in a 400-square-foot office and bought their first computers from Craigslist.

As they grew, the founders were able to hire more billers, salespeople, marketers, IT, and operations team members. They began serving dental practices across the United States remotely.

The villain: Dental insurance companies and the unfair burdens of working with them

The motivation to serve these dental teams always came from a desire to win financial battles on behalf of the practice. Davy, Ryan, and Josh saw firsthand how hard it was for team members to take on insurance companies and fully collect on claims.

“We thought, let's go battle these insurance companies on behalf of these dentists, because they didn't have anybody doing it for them. They were letting things slide and losing millions of dollars in insurance claims. So we knew that we could help. And we wanted to help every dentist in the country succeed against the insurance companies.”

Because a huge portion of their revenue depends on insurance claims, dental teams must collect it efficiently to survive.

But insurance companies always find new ways not to pay. Instead of being at the whim of insurance companies, you can take back control of that revenue by handing over the battle to experts who will fight for you.

With this kind of motivation fueling DCS, what’s the secret to evolving our purpose and achieving growth?

Turning a small business into a proven provider for the whole dental industry

As we celebrate our 10th year in business, we’ve been honored with three Inc. 5000 and three Bulldog 100 growth awards, and more than 100 five-star customer reviews. This is all due to the hard work our internal teams do for our customers.

We have over 100 remote dental billers working directly with dental practices across the United States. We have also built our departments (Client Experience, Marketing, Operations, IT, and Education) that support our customers’ growth and education.

Most of our billers are previous office managers, insurance coordinators, or dental team members. They know how stressful it can be trying to juggle billing tasks as well as building relationships with patients. This is why they are passionate about the services they provide your team.

They want to make every dental professional’s job easier.

“Outsourcing billing was one of the best decisions I could have made for Cheyenne Mountain Dental. I was very nervous when we started this transition, however, the team at DCS made this transition easy. Heather supported me through every step and gave me the confidence that we were in good hands. I couldn’t have asked for a better team.” - A Google review from a customer.

When your billing is handled, you’re fully equipped to lead your practice and team. And you deserve to have consistent, easy income flowing into your practice.

Next up: Revolutionizing dental revenue cycle management

In the past few years, our customers have asked for help with patient billing and insurance verification services. Dental teams spoke, and we listened.

At DCS, we take pride in freeing up dental teams’ time to focus on providing excellent patient care. When you have a clear, accurate, and compliant billing process, running your practice is easy and profitable.
